According to the Bulgarian Constitution it is a tricolor: white, green, and red from top, placed horizontally. The three color fields are identical in form and size. The first flags in white, green and red were used by Bulgarian Legia in Serbia – a revolutionary organization in 1861-1862.
The white colour symbolizes the peace, like the white dove, for example.
The green colour stands for Freedom (the flag of the fighters for freedom in Bulgaria during the Osman slavery was all-green, embroidered with the inscription “Freedom or death”), Fertility (of the Bulgarian soil).
The red colour is for the Bravery of the People.
